RINA BANERJEE

In 1993, she received her Bachelor of Science in Polymer Engineering at Case Western University and worked as a polymer research chemist upon graduation. She soon changed careers to dedicate herself to her artistic practice and, in 1995, received her MFA in painting and printmaking from Yale University. Drawing on her multinational upbringing, her work includes a wide range of media and objects, fusing together shells lightbulbs, pigments, feathers, taxidermy animals, umbrellas, glass, and textiles to evoke fairytales, anthropology, mythology and cultures. An example of this is Take me, take me, take me … to the Palace of Love (2003), which is a bright pink plastic replica of the Taj Mahal. Her works can be found in the permanent collections of Fondation Louis Vuitton pour l’Art Contemporain and Centre Georges Pompidou, both Paris; The Whitney Museum of American Art and Brooklyn Museum, both New York; Kiran Nadar Museum, New Delhi; and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. She has exhibited extensively internationally including prestigious solo and group exhibitions at The Haunch and Venison (2010), London; Musée Guimet (2011), Paris; Galerie Espace (2011), Hong Kong; Smithsonian Museum of Asian Art (2013), Washington, D.C.; Glasstress (2013), Venice; Future Perfect (2013) and OTA Fine Arts (2014), both Singapore; LA Louver Gallery (2014), Los Angeles; Galerie Nathalie Obadia (2015), Paris; MoMA PS1 (2005, 2015), New York; the Busan Biennale (2016), South Korea; and Hosfelt Gallery (2017), San Francisco.
